Crossin’ The Color-Line
I am White, my son is Black,
That is just a natural fact,
My mother and father could not dig my glow,
Told me to leave; told me to go,
They couldn’t bend their minds to understand,
White Jewish Girl & Black Christian Man,
Packed my bags, left home, went to the streets,
That to me was my only retreat,
Lived on the down low for more than a time,
Funny how this all comes out of my head in a rhyme,
To me skin color, I never paid no mind,
Never judged peoples by the color of their rind,
I crossed that line back in the day,
Society, yeah, they tried to make me pay,
Racism here and other isms there,
Swollen with Child, I had no time to listen to that fare,
Survival was my only desire,
My heart was full of love and fire,
My son’s daddy was a good man,
But a long life for him was not destiny’s plan.
The white man’s junk pulled him down,
40 years later, we still feelin’ the wound,
His Mom and Dad took us in,
They were to me our Real Kin,
Their goals and deeds mirrored mine,
They believed all Peoples were the same kind,
They fought long and hard for Civil Rights,
My pride in them is outta sight,
They are my heroes, that’s for real,
My deep love for them no one can steal,
I got family & friends of all different colors & religions from here and there,
Each one I love, and this love I always will share,
My lovers too were as different and diverse as can be,
We all had vision that others could not see,
My son’s all grown now and I am older,
Seems though that the isms have gotten bolder,
Science say humankind evolves,
Seems to me, they don’t get their shit straight, we all gonna dissolve,
Greed and power tryin’ to win,
That to me is one helluva sin,
Well, I’m here to say I ain’t goin’ down with out a fight,
I arm myself with Peace and Love…they carry my might,
A revolution of Love to save the day,
That to me is the only way,
All of this was my destiny’s plan,
To help the World and my fellow child, woman & man,
I never looked back on the decisions of my spirit and heart,
They have lead me true and showed me my part,
I put myself out there for ALL to see,
Crossin’ that color-line been’s good to me!

Thank you to my Son David, His Daddy, My true Mom & Dad, my own parents who taught me to find my own way, my Grand and Glorious Family, Friends, (and a few of my exes), all the people in my life who held me with disdain…you taught me to love even more….and I finally thank myself for having the courage to live my life beyond the limits of living with ‘no Color’. WOZA-Rise-Up!! LOVE
