“Butterfly Rising” Poetry by Sonya Braxton
Like the sun, rising in the sky
Like the wind, passing you by
Like the dew, after the rain
With fire in me, I rise from the pain
Like the breath you take, so free
Like the love that created me
Like the calm, after a stormy rain
I don’t break, I bend from the pain
Like butterfly, so free
You can catch, but you can’t contain me
Like Tobacco smoke, from the fire
I get back up, and rise even higher
If not for Woman, you would not be
So respect Mother Ground, and you best respect me
So much power, in my heart
It runs so deep
Only Creator can truly see
Like Butterfly, I am free
